Sugarcane Skincare Hacks

Updated: Aug 22, 2020

Sugarcane is quite beneficial to the skin but unfortunately it has been overlooked. The skincare benefits are too sweet to ignore, it is attributed to the various essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidant that it contains.

Sugarcane is one of the best naturally sourced Glycolic acid, a neutralized Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) that is extremely beneficial for healthy skin, the tiny molecules makes them more permeable to the skin which is why it is the best treatment for Acne and oily skin. It contains Phenolic acid and flavonoids, a Phyto-nutrients which helps protect skin from oxidative stress caused by UV rays, reduces the potential effects of photoaging, and promotes even skin tone by reducing the appearance of sunspots. It can also boost cell turnover, making it ideal for anti aging treatment.

There are various ways you can use sugarcane in your skincare routine for a natural glowing skin without breaking the bank.

For Acne treatment, mix sugarcane juice and Fullers earth to form a paste. Apply on your

face and neck region, allow for 20 to 30 minutes and wash off with warm water. Repeat every week. Sugarcane is known for it's exfoliating properties which help prevent break-outs, remove dead cells, dirt's and oil that can clog the pores. This leaves your skin soft, silky and glowing.

For Skin Brightening and Anti aging Treatment, i call it the AHA fruity Facial Mist.

Acids are potent, so it's important you use them in their most natural state. AHA occurs naturally in fruits, sugarcane and milk.

Here we are going to use the most basic and important five (5) naturally sourced acids; Grape, Apple, Sugarcane, Coconut and Orange.

Extract the juices or you can buy from the stores, but it's always better when done at

home to be sure you are using 100% juice. I prefer citric acid from Orange as it is mild on the face, you can use lemon instead. Mix equal quantity of all the juice

together, apply on a clean face and neck. Allow for about 30 to 1 hour before washing off with warm water.

Fill it up in a spray bottle or any other bottle for easy usage and storage. Store in the refrigerator for. 2 week or less for maximum benefits. When you have it as your daily skincare routine, you will watch your face transform to a more brighter, smoother and softer skin with a silky feel. Always apply a moisturizer afterwards. This is your sure way of having a flawless skin.

Below are the benefits of the five (5) basic natural acids and why you should add them to your daily skincare routines in no order of important.

Grape Juice (Tartaric acid)

They are mainly occur in fruits but more in Grapes, it helps to improve skin texture and reduce signs of aging and also improve skin hydration. A very good antioxidant.

Apple Juice (Malic Acid)

This acid is sourced primarily from Apple, its a mild AHA with antiaging benefits like ceramide stimulation which help prevent moisture loss, thereby keeping your skin supple. It improves skin smoothness and tone, and help in removing dead skin cells.

Sugarcane Juice (Glycolic Acid)

Sugarcane are the best natural source of Glycolic acid, they easily penetrate the skin deeper more than the other AHA making it effective in skin care. It's known for its exfoliating and rejuvenating benefits. It effectively removes dead skin cells, revealing a fresher and brighter skin. It also has the ability to boost collagen production, plumbing up your skin.

Coconut Milk (Lactic Acid)

Lactic acid is an AHA mostly formed in milk, they are known to improve skin appearance by brightening dull complexion, acne scars and other age related spots. They contain natural fats that help nourish and hydrate your skin, acting as a humectant.

Orange Juice (Citric Acid)

Citric acid are naturally sourced from Oranges, Lemon, Lime and certain Berries. When applied topically, they are wonderful ingredients for treating several skin issues like mild acne, clogged pores, pigmentation, dark spots and wrinkles. They help cleanse your skin deeply because they are the most astringent of these acids.

Another Sugarcane skincare hack is making an Exfoliating scrub from Coffee grounds.

The caffeine in coffee grounds has potent antioxidant properties. Mix 2 tablespoon of coffee grounds and 1 tablespoon of sugarcane juice, mix vigorously and apply on your face and neck. Allow for about 20mins before washing off. The caffeine will help increase blood flow which will aid in the overall skin health.
